Russian envoy meets BNP secretary general

DHAKA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - Russian Ambassador in Dhaka Alexander G. Khozin met with BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at party chief's Gulshan office here this morning and discussed various issues of bilateral cooperation.

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid were present.

Different issues, including strengthening bilateral ties and expansion of trade and commerce, came up for discussion during the hour-long meeting.

After the meeting, Amir Khasru told reporters that Russia has enough interest to invest in Bangladesh, especially in trade.

"They have a lot of interest in the elections. They wanted to know how soon the national elections are going to be held," he said.

Referring to Bangladesh's long-standing relations with Russia, Amir Khasru said Russia is an energy-rich country. There was a discussion about what kind of cooperation can be between the two countries in this field, he said.

"Russia is very rich culturally. We discussed how we can make cultural exchanges," he said.
