DHAKA, May 9, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said that the fascist Awami League had turned the constitution into its own party constitution so that there is no alternative to reforming it.

“There are many gaps between the expectations and achievements of the Liberation War. The expectations with which the Liberation War was fought didn’t have any reflection during the Awami League’s rule,” he said.

Tarique Rahman made the remarks while addressing a online event  on the occasion of 'Easter Sunday' for Christians at Khamarbari in the capital's Farmgate here.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Aramgir and Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze were present with Advocate John Gomez in the chair.

Stating that Bangladesh does not belong to any individual or party, but to the people, BNP acting chairman said that some people are criticizing BNP in the name of reforms.

Tarique Rahman said those who say that BNP does not want reforms, but wants elections, are not telling the truth, because BNP was the first to propose reforms.

At this time, he said that a group is currently trying to create a rift between the "anti-fascist parties".

At the same time, efforts are being made to rehabilitate the "fascist Awami League" and its allies who have been beneficiaries of the three consecutive terms, he added.

Calling for a united country to be built by stopping these conspiracies, the BNP acting chairman said just as Sheikh Hasina fled on August 5, another friend of Sheikh Hasina, Abdul Hamid, has fled.

However, he urged all to remain united so that no one can hatch conspiracy in the future.
