LONDON, May 10, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - British police said officers detained another Iranian man on Friday as part of a counter-terrorism probe, following a string of recent arrests.

London's Metropolitan Police said officers arrested and detained the 31-year-old "at an address in north-west London this morning as part of the investigation, which is being led by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command."

It added that three other Iranian men arrested in the capital on May 3 could now be detained until May 17.

The Met said the arrests were not linked to a separate "counter-terrorism" operation on May 3, when officers arrested five Iranian men across England.

UK media reports said those arrests followed an alleged plot to target the Israeli embassy in London, though there were few details and the authorities did not publicly confirm the claims.

On Thursday, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected allegations his government was involved in such a plot.

"Iran in no uncertain terms categorically rejects any involvement in such actions and confirms that we have not been informed of any allegations via proper diplomatic channels," Araghchi said in a post on X.

"Iran has urged the UK to engage so that we may assist any probe into credible allegations," he added, noting that the "timing and lack of engagement suggest that something is amiss," without elaborating.

Iran has called for immediate clarification on the arrests and for consular access to the detainees.
