Mild to moderate heat wave likely to persist: BMD

DHAKA, May 10, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has reported a mild to moderate heat wave is currently affecting large parts of the country and is expected to continue.

The heat wave is sweeping over the divisions of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, and Chattogram, as well as parts of Rajshahi and Khulna. It is also affecting the districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram and Moulvibazar, according a BMD bulletin this morning.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi and Chuadanga are experiencing a severe heat wave, with temperatures reaching record 40 degree Celsius and 41.2 degree Celsius respectively on Friday.

The lowest temperature 22 degree Celsius has been recorded in Sylhet today.

BMD meteorologist Md. Shaheenul Islam said the weather is likely to remain mostly dry, with partly cloudy skies over the country. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.

In Dhaka, the sun will set at 6:32pm today and rise at 5:18am tomorrow.
