DHAKA, May 10, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said safe food must be ensured for all people.

"Unsafe food for the poor and safe food for the middle class - such discrimination must be eliminated. This cannot be allowed. Safe food must be ensured for all people," she said.

The adviser was inaugurating the 7th International Scientific Conference on Food Safety and Health at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) auditorium here.

Farida said fisheries and livestock also play an important role in food production. "There is a deep relationship between food production and public health. Conscious people want to get chemical-free and antibiotic-free fish and meat even if they pay more money. But the common or working people are not aware of whether food is safe," she added.

Bangladesh Society for Safe Food President Professor Dr Khaled Hossain presided over the event.

Sylhet Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam, Director General of the Department of Livestock Dr Md Abu Sufian, and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority member Professor Dr Mohammad Shoaib spoke as special guests.

Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) President Shamsul Arefin Khaled spoke as the guest of honor. CIRDAP Director General Dr P Chandra Shekhara presented the keynote paper.

Teachers, scientists, researchers, students and senior government and private officials from various universities were present at the event.
