DHAKA, May 10, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today extended greetings and warm congratulations to all the Buddhists in Bangladesh as well as elsewhere in the world on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

In a message on the occasion of the main religious festival of Buddha Purnima, he said great Gautam Buddha was an eternal voice of non-violence, justice and equality.

"His teachings were also in favor of self-victory and self-establishment," he said.

Buddha Purnima is the holiest festival of Buddhists celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Baishakh, he added.

Tarique Rahman said Gautam Buddha was born on Baisakhi Purnima. This day is known as Buddha Purnima because three important events took place in the life of the great man Buddha on this full moon day of the month of Baishakh, he said.

Gautam Buddha was born on this full moon day and attained Buddhahood and Mahaparinirvana.

He attained infinite knowledge by transcending the level of ego, he added.
