KHULNA, May 11, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University (KU), Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim, today urged media professionals to uphold objective journalism and ensure proper fact-checking in their works.

He made the remarks as the chief guest while unveiling Protichchhobi, the annual magazine of the Khulna University Journalists' Association, during the official handover ceremony of its new executive committee, held at the Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium on the campus.

"By engaging in the responsible profession of journalism alongside their academic pursuits, students are getting the opportunity to develop their intellect and creativity. Through their writing, the achievements and progress in education and research at the university are being highlighted in the media, along with various issues and challenges," he said.

He noted that the role of students in the July Uprising earned them a dignified place in the hearts of the people, and praised the journalist community in Khulna for maintaining objectivity in their reporting.

While acknowledging that journalism has become easier due to advances in information technology, he cautioned that it must not become irresponsible.

He congratulated the newly elected members of the KU Journalists' Association and urged them to be more cautious and responsible in presenting objective news and verifying facts to uphold the university's reputation.

Speaking as a special guest, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Harun-or-Rashid Khan said journalism is one of the most respected professions globally. He emphasized that truth-seeking, responsibility, and creativity are the pillars of this profession. "A single false report can ruin someone's life, so journalists must always remain committed to the truth," he added.

The event began with a welcome speech by outgoing President Ekramul Haque, who gave a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the journey, achievements, and future plans of the association.

In his speech, newly elected President Alzama Romin expressed his commitment to playing an active role in the development of the organization.
