CHATTOGRAM, May 25, 2025 (BSS) - Top terror Ali Akbar, also known as 'Dhakaiya Akbar', died while receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), two days after sustaining critical bullet  injures in a shootout at Patenga beach.

Nuru-e-Alam Ashik, Sub-Inspector of CMCH police outpost told BSS that Akbar was undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for his injuries. Doctors declared him dead at 8 am today.

Akbar, 44, was a resident of the Bayezid Bostami area and the son of Manju Mia. Police sources revealed that he had minimum 10 pending cases against him including murder, illegal arms possession, and extortion with different police stations of CMP.

Unidentified attackers shot at Akbar and another individual around 8:30 pm on Friday night while they were socializing with friends in Patenga sea beach area.

Witnesses stated that a group of 10–12 armed men suddenly approached and started firing indiscriminately at Akbar. He fell to the ground and the attackers quickly fled the scene.

Akbar was immediately taken to CMCH in critical condition along with the other injured person.

Law enforcement officials mentioned that Akbar was a known rival of another top gang star in Chattogram, Sajjad Hossain, also known as  'Chhoto Sajjad'.

Sajjad was arrested earlier this year on March 15, from Bashundhara Shopping Mall in Dhaka and is currently in jail.

Despite Sajjad's arrest, his associates continue to be active.

Police are investigating the motive behind Akbar's murder and the potential involvement of rival gang factions. Security has been tightened in several parts of the city to prevent further violence.
