Democracy is root of people: Ex CJ Mudassir Hossain

DHAKA, June 4, 2025 (BSS) - Former Chief Justice Syed J. R. Mudassir Husain today said democracy is root of the countrymen. 

"It (democracy) is not just a system of governance, but a culture. The main objective of good governance is to ensure an environment of equal opportunity, security and respect for all," he said.

He told a discussion on 'The Complete Journey of Democracy: Urgent Reforms, National Parliament Elections and Good Governance' organised by Universal News Agency (UNA) at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.

Syed J. R. Mudassir Husain said, "We want an electoral system where every citizen can vote freely and proudly. Democracy cannot be complete until the governance of the state is efficient and fair. Our administration, judiciary and education policies should be timely and fair. Reform does not mean just changing the law. It is a change in the mentality of people, a change in the development of the system."
