DHAKA, June 5, 2025 (BSS) - The government has handed over the title deed of the Gulshan house to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Adviser to the ministry of Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan handed over the title deed to Begum Khaleda Zia at around 9:00 pm on Wednesday.

Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartik (RAJUK) Chairman Riazul Islam were present at the time, ABM Abdus Sattar, Private Secretary to Begum Khaleda Zia confirmed.

He said the adviser came with some papers and he gave those to the former prime minister. However, he does not know what kind of paper it is.

After the assassination of Ziaur Rahman on May 31, 1981, while he was the President of the republic, his wife Khaleda Zia was allotted the house located on one and a half bighas of land in the capital's Gulshan area.

The house is near the house named 'Firoza' in Gulshan where Khaleda Zia currently lives in. Apart from this, another house was also allotted to Khaleda Zia inside the Dhaka Cantonment. But, the previous Awami League government cancelled the allocation of the house in the cantonment.

Reliable sources said that the house in Gulshan is under the control of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia although it was not registered to her name. The house was registered in Khaleda Zia's name after the interim government took office.

Public Works Ministry sources said that the government has already completed the registration of Begum Khaleda Zia's house. The government wanted to formally hand over the registration paper to Khaleda Zia. But the formalities were delayed due to Khaleda Zia's physical condition.
