1,48,227 cases disposed of through ADR

DHAKA, June 15, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 1,48,227 cases have been disposed of across the country through the alternative dispute resolutions (ADR) under the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), official sources said here today.

The cases were solved through the ADR system from 2009 to April 2025, according to the information available at the website of the organization.

The service was started initially at the district level in 2009 that was later extended up to the Supreme Court and Dhaka and Chattogram divisional headquarters, the sources said, adding that the service was further extended to all the prisons of the country. The service was also given through a toll free number of the NLASO.

The ADR is a system of settlement of the cases outside the court in which both the parties are benefited.

According to the NLASO, a total of 1,64,482 cases were submitted to the NLASO for arbitration of which 1,48,227 cases were disposed of. A total of 1,46,314 cases were settled through 64 District Legal aid Officers while 1913 cases were disposed of through labourers assistance cell in Dhaka and Chattogram where a total of 2,83,405 people were directly benefited.

A total of 12,07,993 people received free legal services across the country from 2009 to April, 2025, it said,  adding that these services were given through 64 District Legal Aid Offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office and Labourer Assistance Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram and the toll free call centre’s 16430.

The National Aid Services Organization has been providing these free legal aid assistance to the poor and marginal people across the country. This organization has been giving the services under the direct supervision of the Law and Justice Division of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
