Labour Law-2006 to be amended soon: labour secretary

GENEVA (Switzerland), June 15, 2025(BSS) - Labour and Employment Affairs Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman has said that the Labour Law-2006 will be amended soon to ensure welfare of workers, their social security and congenial work atmosphere.

The secretary said this during a meeting with a delegation of the Better Work Bangladesh in Geneva on Friday last, an official release said here today. 

The meeting discussed on International Labour Organization (ILO) roadmap, compensation in work place, social dialogue, ILO convention and factory inspection issues. 

The labour secretary said empowerment of women and their inclusive improvement have been ensured in 450 factories in Bangladesh through the programmes taken by Better Work Bangladesh that was appreciated globally.

A total of 24 factories would be given 'Green Factory Award' to encourage environment friendly production process and a workshop on 'better work programme for workers welfare' will be held on June 17, the release added. 

Besides, 122 new Labour Inspectors would be appointed soon for strengthening the labour inspection system.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Better Work Bangladesh, its head of policy research and evaluation, head of partnership advocacy and communication and senior officials of the labour and employment ministry.
