11-member Advisory Council Committee formed to oversee employment of Bangladeshis abroad

DHAKA, June 16, 2025 (BSS) - The interim government has formed an 11-member Advisory Council Committee to look into the overseas employment of Bangladeshis.

Adviser to Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Dr Asif Nazrul was made convener of the committee, according to a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday. 

Seventeen senior secretaries and secretaries, including the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser, will assist the committee.

The committee will come into effect immediately.

The remaining members of the Committee are: Finance Adviser Dr. 

Salehuddin Ahmed, Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen Soneya Murshid, Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin, and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.

The Advisory Council Committee has been entrusted with coordinating activities related to overseas employment, formulating guidelines for expanding the labour market and exploring new ones, proposing strategies to face challenges in overseas employment, and ensuring the overall welfare of Bangladeshi workers abroad.

They will also prepare guidelines for the proper management of safe, orderly, and regular migration of Bangladeshi workers and their skill development.

The Committee will also suggest ways to increase legal remittance and formulate a policy for the reintegration of returning migrant workers.

The Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry will provide secretarial support to the committee.
