EU lauds Bangladesh's low-cost innovations in global health research

DHAKA, July 15, 2025 (BSS) - The European Union (EU) has praised Bangladesh's advancements in low-cost, impactful health innovations and cutting-edge research in vaccines and genome sequencing, underscoring their potential to benefit not only Bangladesh but also countries across the world.

Charge d'affaires of the EU Delegation to Bangladesh Dr Bernd Spanier made the remarks during his visit to the icddr,b, one of the world's leading global health research institutes, in Dhaka on Monday, said EU embassy here today. 

"The cutting-edge work on vaccines, genome sequencing, and the low-cost, impactful innovations being conducted in Bangladesh is very inspiring and holds significant potential for other countries and continents," Dr Spanier said, reflecting on the institute's contributions to global health.

The EU promotes investment in research and innovation as part of its commitment to strengthening health systems globally, with a focus on equitable and sustainable health solutions.

The icddr,b, headquartered in Dhaka, has played a pioneering role in addressing critical health challenges through affordable innovations and research-driven solutions, including the development of oral rehydration therapy and vaccine research benefitting millions in Bangladesh and beyond.

The visit reflected the EU's continued interest in supporting Bangladesh's research and innovation ecosystem, recognizing its critical role in building a healthier, resilient and inclusive future for all.
