Farida describes workers as main driving force of country’s development

DHAKA, July 19, 2025 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said Bangladesh has been advancing towards development due to the contributions of the working class of people as they are the main driving force of the country’s development.

 “You (workers) are one of the main wage earners of the country and you have been keeping the country’s economy moving,” she said while addressing a mammoth workers rally at Genda Balurmath near Savar bus stand in Savar upazila here.

The ministry of Labour and Employment organized the rally as part of the ‘July Punarjagoron Anusthanmala-2025’ with Secretary to the Ministry AHM Shafiquzzaman in the chair.

Labour and Employment and Shipping Adviser Brig. Gen. (Rtd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain joined the rally as the chief guest where Primary and Mass Education Adviser Prof Dr Bidhan Chandra Ray Podder, Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin S Murshid, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Lieutenant General (Rtd) Abdul Hafiz and Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the rally as special guests.

The Fisheries and Livestock Adviser said that the present interim government has been working to provide fair wages to the workers while efforts are on to implement the worker’s rights in line with the labour laws.

Referring to the families of July (2024) martyrs, Farida Akhter said that the family members of the martyrs have seen the ray of hopes after the changeover of the government although their sufferings are still continuing. 

“It is our responsibilities to redress the sufferings of the martyred families by standing by their sides,” she added. 

Several thousand workers from different factories and industries, leaders of different trade bodies, representatives from the owners and officers and employees of concerned departments and offices joined the rally, among others.
