DHAKA, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Clinical Oncology Department of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) recently concluded a three-day academic session focused on the modern and evidence-based treatment of prostate and head-neck cancers.

The session, titled 'Summary of Evidence-Based Treatment for Prostate Cancer and Head and Neck Cancer,' took place at the university auditorium from November 3 to 5, said a press release today.

The main speaker for the session was Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, a Consultant Clinical Oncologist from Southend University Hospital, United Kingdom.

Dr. Ahmed delivered detailed discussions covering international guideline-based treatment methods, cancer patient staging and risk stratification, modern radiotherapy technology, and recent advancements in systemic therapy.

The session placed specific emphasis on internationally recognized treatment guidelines, modern radiotherapy strategy, the latest updates on systemic therapy, and best practices in patient management.

A vital component of the training included practical engagement, where participants had the opportunity to gain real-world experience through hands-on training and clinical case discussions.

Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of BMU, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony.

He stated that such high-quality scientific sessions provide BMU residents with insights into the recent developments in medical science and create opportunities for practical learning.

Dr. Azad stressed the importance of updated knowledge for oncologists.

He noted that an oncologist's most crucial attributes involve understanding modern evidence-based treatment, international guidelines, and recent progress in both systemic therapy and radiotherapy.

Updated knowledge is what helps a physician make the correct decision for the patient, he added.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor expressed his desire for Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed to return to Bangladesh and collaborate with the university again in the future.
