JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) - A doa mahfil and discussion were held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) today to mark the National Revolution and Solidarity Day, organised by the Nationalist Teachers' Forum (NTF).

The programme took place at around 4:15 pm after the Asr prayer at the Bishmail staff quarters mosque on the campus.

Addressing the gathering, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said, "The historic significance of 7 November is not associated with the founding anniversary of any political party. Rather, it symbolises the 'soldier-people revolution' that arose from the widespread dissatisfaction, inequality, and disorder that developed after independence."

He said that Ziaur Rahman did not try to seize power, but rather accepted responsibility during a period of national crisis, adding, "He accepted the leadership only when freedoms were under threat."

He further noted that after assuming charge, Ziaur Rahman worked to unite the nation and reduce disparities, and "through the growth of the ready-made garment industry and remittance income, he laid a strong economic foundation, which can be considered a 'second independence' for Bangladesh."

NTF President Professor Md Shamsul Alam said, "Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman did not represent any single political group; he worked for the entire nation. Today, we pray so that the continuity of the ideals he upheld may be preserved."

Following the discussion, special prayers were offered for the peace of the soul of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and for the welfare of the nation.

The programme was attended by NTF General Secretary Professor Md Jamal Uddin, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Monowar Hossain, Organising Secretary Professor Dr Muhammad Nazrul Islam, JU Chhatra Dal Convener Jahir Uddin Babor, Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik, and other officials.
