280 new dengue cases and one death reported in past 24 hours

DHAKA, July 24, 2025 (BSS) - Health officials today reported 280 new cases of dengue infection and at least one death in the past 24 hours, with most patients admitted to health facilities in the southwestern Barishal region.

"During this period, 66 patients were hospitalized in Barishal division," said a statement from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), adding that the division appeared to be the worst affected by the mosquito-borne disease.

The statement said among the rest, 45 patients were hospitalized in Chattogram division (excluding Chattogram City), 44 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 30 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 24 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), three in Mymensingh division, 25 in Khulna division, 39 in Rajshahi division, and four in Rangpur division.

Since the start of this year's dengue outbreak, Bangladesh has witnessed 70 deaths and 18,625 infections.

The DGHS also said 233 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the country after recovery.

Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives and infected 101,214 people in the country.
