Implications of AI in medical services highlighted

DHAKA, July 30, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting have highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing medical services, modernizing medical education, and fostering joint collaboration in research.

They also made several recommendations on the application of AI in the healthcare sector and emphasized strengthening cooperation among member states of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

The discussion also addressed critical issues such as climate change, environmental health, mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya, and antimicrobial resistance.

The meeting titled 'Academic-Technical Collaboration' was held yesterday between ICESCO and Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) at the conference room of BMU's Super Specialized Hospital, said a press release issued today.

BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam addressed the discussion as the chief guest, while Professor Dr Rahil Qamar, Head of the Science and Environment Sector at ICESCO, Rabat, Morocco, attended as special guest.

An open discussion followed, titled 'The Future of Medical Education with Human Resource Development for AI-Related Activities and Research'.

BMU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar, and Chairman of the Department of Public Health and Informatics and Dean of the Faculty of Preventive and Social Medicine Professor Dr Md Atiqul Haque, spoke at the event.
