SAVAR, July 30, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said the fascist evil forces that fell, fled, defeated, and expelled in exchange of blood of all martyrs are lurking in taking opportunities to rehabilitate them in politics.

“Any wrong decision of the government can put the path of transition to democracy in the country in crisis. Fascism and extremism can rise in the country. In this regard, all of us, especially the interim government, must be vigilant and must remain alert,” he said while virtually addressing a public meeting.

Dhaka District BNP organized the programme to honor the families of the students, workers and the public who embraced martyrdom in July mass uprising at the Darul Ihsan ground in Sreepur Gonakbari, Ashulia, Savar.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke as the main speaker at the public meeting, chaired by Dhaka District BNP President Khandaker Abu Ashfaq and moderated by its General Secretary Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury.

BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Mass Education Affairs Secretary Morshed Khan, Assistant Family Welfare Secretary Salauddin Babu, Chairperson's Advisory Council member Aman Ullah Aman, and Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Islam also spoke.

Tarique Rahman said in continuation of the movement of the last one and a half decades, in the mass uprising of July, “dictator” Sheikh Hasina fled the country in exchange for thousands of lives and a massive number of martyrs was from Savar-Ashulia area.

He said the major number of martyrs in the movement was from the working class. Especially in this Savar-Ashulia area, massacre was carried out, bodies were burnt, he added.

Such brutality with bodies seems to have defeated the atrocities of Karbala, he said.

Tarique Rahman said working people had no direct interest in the quota reform movement in government jobs because they did not expect government jobs.

“Why did garment factory workers, rickshaw pullers, daily wage workers, van drivers, truck drivers, helpers, shop or restaurant workers or men and women of all ages and all professions come out on the streets that day? As a political activist, I can find only one reason that people from all walks of life believe that if fascist force cling on to power, they won’t get back their rights and sovereignty of the country will be plundered,” he said.

Tarique Rahman said the important way for a citizen to exercise political power is elections.

Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other central leaders presented the crest of honor to the members of the families of the martyrs.

Later, in Savar and Ashulia, Shaheed Sajjad Hossain Sajal's mother Shahima Begum, Shaheed Mamun Biplob's wife Sathi Khan, Shaheed Russel Gazi's mother Selima Begum, Shaheed Shraban Gazi's father Mannan Gazi, Shaheed Ashabul's father Enam Gazi, Arafur Rahman Russel's brother Saidur Rahman Babu, Shaheed Bayezid's wife Rina Akhter, Arafat Munshi's father Swapan Munshi and Shaheed Abul Hossain's wife Lucky Akhter expressed the pain of losing their relatives and said that currently many martyr family members are living in misery.
