SAVAR, July 30, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said deposed fascist ruler Sheikh Hasina killed people, students to cling on to power.

He said this at a public meeting organized by the Dhaka District BNP in honor of the family members of the July uprising martyrs at the Ganakbari Darul Ihsa Madrasa ground in Ashulia this afternoon.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman virtually addressed the programme as the chief guest.

Fakhrul said Sheikh Hasina has been inciting violence in Bangladesh from India and it was seen in Gopalganj.

He urged everyone to stay vigilant in this regard.

“The way Hitler burned people during World War II, people were burned to death in Ashulia. Our goal was supposed to be achieved after the 1971 war, but the dictatorial government wanted to remain in power forever by using the state apparatus,” said the BNP secretary general.

“By the infinite mercy of Allah, we were freed from the hands of that monster through the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs,” he said.

Fakhrul said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia gave a vision of 2030 in 2016 for the state reforms to bring the country to the right place while party’s acting Chairman Tarique Rahman gave a 31-point programme in 2022 to reform the state structure.

He said despite the fall of the dictatorship, the nation is yet to return to democracy in real sense.

BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Chairperson's advisory council member Aman Ullah Aman, publicity secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Dhaka Metropolitan North convener Aminul Haque were present at the time.

Dhaka district BNP president Khandaker Abu Ashfaq presided over the public meeting, while district general secretary Nipun Roy moderated it.

Earlier, at the beginning of the meeting, relatives of the families of the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement in Savar spoke. Many broke down in tears while speaking. During this time, they were presented with honorary crests.
