Health officials report 2 deaths, 278 fresh cases of dengue inflection overnight

DHAKA, July 31, 2025 (BSS) - Health officials today said they recorded 278 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts killing at least two persons in the past 24 hours with most patients reporting in health facilities in southwestern Barishal region.

"During the period, (of the 278) 72 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division" which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito carried diseases, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

It said among the rests, 35 were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 46 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 35 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 28 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 18 in Khulna division, four in Mymensingh division, 35 in Rajshahi division and five in Rangpur Division.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 83 deaths while the disease inflicted 20,980.

The DGHS, however, said 303 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the country after their recovery.

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
