Fresher’s reception for master’s students in media and journalism held at PIB

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Fresher’s reception for the master’s programme students in media and journalism for the academic year 2024 of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) was held at its auditorium today.

Mahbuba Farjana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated the event.

Vice-Chancellor of the National University Dr. A. S. M. Amanullah, Acting President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Obaidur Rahman Shaheen and General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club Ayub Bhuiyan also attended the event, said a PIB press release.

At the very outset of the event, a documentary on “Shrabon Bidroho” based on the July Uprising was screened. Then the masters programme 2024 students were welcomed with flowers.

The program was presided over by Faruk Wasif, Director General of the PIB.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A. S. M. Amanullah said that in line with the advancement in information and communication technology, the journalism in Bangladesh should also be taken forward.

He noted that the traditional media theories and studies have also been evolved a lot in the era of information and technology.

“The journalists must acquire skills on AI and big data to move forward in line with the contemporary issues,” he added.

In his concluding speech, PIB Director General Faruk Wasif said that everyone should fight against disinformation from their respective positions.

Noting that the strength of truth is immense, Faruk called for dismantling the false narratives. He also called upon the journalists to play a pioneering role in this regard.

Students of Post Graduate diploma programme, PIB officials and employees were present, among others, on the occasion.
