ROME, ITALY, August 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Embassy in Rome, under the directive of the interim government, today observed 'Remittance Fighters Day' to honour the contributions of expatriates to the July Uprising.
The programme began with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the July Uprising. Following this, a documentary produced by the government for the occasion was screened.
The embassy premises were decorated with graffiti and photographs related to the uprising, highlighting the vital role played by youth in shaping Bangladesh's new political trajectory.
Prominent Bangladeshi expatriates and community leaders in Italy participated in a discussion marking the significance of the day.
Speakers reaffirmed their commitment to building a non-discriminatory, developed, and prosperous Bangladesh. They also appreciated the government's efforts to protect the rights and welfare of migrant workers.
Ambassador Rokebul Haque paid deep homage to all the martyrs of the July Uprising and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
He expressed gratitude to the Bangladeshi expatriates in Italy for their continued contribution to the country's socio-economic development through remittances sent via legal channels.
The Ambassador also acknowledged the significant role played by expatriates in the July Mass Uprising. He outlined various migrant-friendly initiatives taken by the interim government over the past year.
He further stated that new programmes have been adopted to ensure a secure and improved quality of life for migrant workers abroad and upon their return to the country.
