80 parties submit lacking information to EC

DHAKA, Aug 03, 2025 (BSS) – A total of 80 political parties have submitted their lacking documents before the Election Commission (EC) to get registration ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.

EC Secretariat Director (Public Relations) Md. Shariful Alam today revealed the information.

He said that a total of 145 parties submitted applications to the EC for registration as new political parties. 

After scrutinizing the applications of the parties, he said, letters were sent to 145 parties setting 15-day time to submit the lacking documents which ends today (August 3) . 

Out of which, a total of 80 parties have submitted their lacking documents to the EC, he added.

Earlier, EC Additional Secretary K.M. Ali Newaz told BSS that all 145 parties seeking registration could not fulfil all the requirements, sought by the EC. 

So, letters were sent to the parties to submit their lacking documents within 15 days, he added. 

He said that the parties that can fulfil the eligibility within 15 days will be investigated but those cannot fulfil the requirements will not be investigated.

As a result, EC officials said, the registration applications of the remaining 65 parties will be cancelled due to submission of incomplete information as per  law.

Ahead of the 13th parliamentary polls, 147 applications for registration from 145 parties were submitted to the EC. The last date for interested parties to apply along with the necessary documents to fulfil the conditions for registration was June 22 last.
