EC secy to visit US for launch of expatriate voter registration

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) -Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, will inaugurate the expatriate voter registration program in the United States. 

The visit aims to accelerate voter registration and the issuance of national ID cards to Bangladeshis living abroad, a press release said today.

A letter, signed by EC Deputy Secretary M Mazharul Islam, issued today, outlined the details of the visit. 

The directive confirmed that Akhtar Ahmed will lead an administrative and technical delegation to the US.

The team will depart Dhaka on September 19 and stay in the US from September 21 to 27.

They are expected to return on September 29. 

The team will oversee the installation of equipment, provide training to local embassy and consulate officials and ensure smooth registration at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC and consulates in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles.

This initiative will strengthen the voting rights of expatriate Bangladeshis and expedite the ID card issuance process.
