EC holds hearing on 309 demarcation objections, suggestions of Dhaka constituencies

DHAKA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - As part of preparations for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, the Election Commission (EC) has reviewed a total of 309 submissions--including 259 objections and 50 suggestions--related to the redrawing of 28 parliamentary constituencies across six districts in the Dhaka region.

On the third day of its [EC] ongoing hearings on constituency boundary re-demarcation, the daylong hearing took place from 10:00am to 5:00pm today at the Election Commission (EC) Bhaban auditorium in the capital's Agargaon area.

The session was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, with participation from other election commissioners and the Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat.

During the morning session (10:00am-12:30pm), the Commission heard objections and suggestions concerning the constituencies of Manikganj-1, 2, 3; Munshiganj-1, 2, 3; Gazipur-2 and 6; and Narsingdi-3, 4, 5; as well as Narayanganj-3, 4, 5. 

The afternoon session (2:30pm-5:00pm) focused on hearings for Dhaka 
constituencies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19.

The hearings will continue on August 27 (Wednesday), focusing on 
constituencies in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Faridpur and Sylhet 
regions.

The morning session (10:00 AM-12:30 PM) will cover Panchagarh-1, 2; Rangpur-1; Kurigram-4; Sirajganj-2, 5, 6; and Pabna-1 while the afternoon session (2:30 PM-5:00 PM) will address claims and objections for Tangail-6; Jamalpur-2; Kishoreganj-1; Sylhet-1; Faridpur-1, 4; Madaripur-2, 3 and Shariatpur-2, 3.

The EC began the hearing process on Sunday with the disposal of 811 
applications including 429 objections and 382 suggestions regarding 18 
constituencies across six districts in the Cumilla region.

On Monday, hearings were held for 20 constituencies across Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
 
A total of 513 submissions related to nine districts were addressed.

As of August 10, the EC had received 1,760 claims and objections concerning the redrawing of 83 parliamentary constituencies. 

The Commission will complete hearings on all submissions before finalizing and announcing the updated constituency boundaries for the upcoming national election.
