United resistance must be built against illegal sand extractors: Social Welfare Adviser

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has said that the common people must unite and build resistance against illegal sand extractors.

The Adviser said this while visiting river erosion-affected areas and attending a views-exchange meeting at her native village Nasirabad at Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.

Stating that it is not possible for the administration alone to stop illegal sand lifting, Sharmeen said the common people must come together and resist 
the sand lifters.

The Adviser also asked the local administration to take necessary steps to stop illegal sand lifting in the areas and thus save homes, croplands, and livelihoods of people there.

DIG of Bangladesh Highway Police (Eastern Division) Mohammad Habibur Rahman Khan, Deputy Commissioner Didarul Alam, Superintendent of Police Ehteshamul Haque, Private Secretary to the Adviser Tarek Mohammad Zakaria, NDC Abu Mosha, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Monjur Rahman, UNO Rajib Chowdhury, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nabinagar Circle) Pias Basak, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Khaled Bin Monsur were present among others.

Replying to a question from a journalist, Sharmeen termed cyber crime as a problem and thus suggested the youth folk to become skilled in the IT sector to combat it.
