Navy members awarded UN Peacekeeping Medal in South Sudan

DHAKA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) – Members of Bangladesh Navy Force Marine Unit (BANFMU-10) deployed in the UN peacekeeping mission in Juba and Malakal, South Sudan, have been awarded the UN Peacekeeping Medal.
 
The Medal Parade of the BANFMU-10 Contingent was held in Juba, South Sudan on Wednesday, said an ISPR release here today.

At the event, Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian was present as the chief guest and presented the UN Peacekeeping Medal to 199 navy officers and sailors in recognition to their outstanding contribution in the peacekeeping operations.
 
Officials of the UNMISS Force Headquarters and other senior officers attended the event.

At the medal parade, the Force Commander highly praised the members of the Bangladesh Navy deployed in the peacekeeping mission in South Sudan. 

He mentioned that the Bangladesh Navy Contingent has made an outstanding contribution in transporting fuel, food and other important goods of the United Nations by conducting operations with great courage and efficiency in the hostile environment and conflict areas of the Nile River. 

He also commented that the Bangladesh Navy Contingent is performing its great and important duties such as conducting regular patrols on the river route, conducting recce operations, rescue operations, diving operations and providing transportation and security to all UN agencies deployed in South Sudan in a commendable manner. 

He expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh Navy and the Government of Bangladesh for their support in the UN peacekeeping operations and expressed hope that this trend will continue in the future.

The Bangladesh Navy Contingent has been participating in the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan since 2015. 

As the only marine force of UNMISS in South Sudan, the Bangladesh Navy's Force Marine Unit is engaged in implementing UN mandate in the vast area of ??the Nile River. 
The Bangladesh Navy Contingent has successfully completed 71 logistic operations (Operation Life Line) by traversing the 1,311-kilometer-long Nile River.

Since its deployment, the Bangladesh Navy Contingent has been making outstanding contributions to the development and peace-building in South Sudan. 

In addition, in the turbulent Mediterranean Sea, the Bangladesh Navy's warship BNS Sangram is proudly flying the country's flag and playing a commendable role in establishing world peace in international waters.
