DHAKA, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - The central mosque of Dhaka University (DU) will be reconstructed with financial assistance from Turkey's IDDEF, a non-profit islamic organization based in Istanbul.

The new mosque complex will feature modern facilities along with provisions for education and research.

IDDEF's International Coordinator, Salahuddin Ceylan discussed details of the project during a meeting with DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan at his office today.

A digital survey and final design of the mosque are underway and construction will begin soon after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between DU and IDDEF.

Expressing gratitude to the Turkish organisation, DU VC Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan said rebuilding the central mosque has been a longstanding demand of the university community.

DU Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury briefed the meeting on the proposed design and facilities of the mosque complex.

Earlier, DU signed another MoU with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) to upgrade the university's medical centre.

Under the agreement, TIKA has already started renovation work and will provide advanced diagnostic equipment, an atomic force microscope for research and a modern ambulance for emergency services.
