DHAKA, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) has said a clash and chase-counter chase took place between activists of two political parties in Kakrail, Dhaka, creating unrest in the area.

The incident occurred around 8:00 pm, leaving several people injured and the army and police were deployed to control the situation, an ISPR release said last night.

Initially, the police tried to manage the situation, but in one stage, the violence increased prompting the law enforcers to seek army's help as some police members were also attacked when they went to the occurrence of the incident and some of them were injured.

The law enforcement members asked both sides to remain calm, respect the law, and resolve their differences peacefully, but some party activists ignored the warnings, organized mob violence, and attacked the police.

Around 9 pm, they held a torch march, threw bricks, and tried to set fire to different establishments as mass people's movement in nearby areas like Bijoynagar and Nayapaltan was seriously disrupted.

The statement said they ignored all tries of peaceful reconciliation by law enforcers. So, the law enforcement agency is bound to use force to maintain public security.

It also said five army personnel were injured while helping to restore order.

The ISPR stressed that the government of Bangladesh has a zero-tolerance policy against mob violence.

The army reiterates the government's decision and is ready to act firmly against any mob violence to ensure public safety, peace, and law and order, it added.
