DHAKA, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today acquitted BNP Secretary
General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir of charges in a case filed in 2013 for
obstructing police from discharging their duties and attempted murder.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the
order following a High Court directive, defence counsel Syed Joynal Abedin
Mejbah told BSS.

Police on March 2, 2013, filed the case against 28 people, including Mirza
Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for allegedly obstructing police and attempting to
murder. Later that year, investigators submitted a charge-sheet against 21
accused including Fakhrul.

The BNP secretary general's counsel subsequently moved to the High Court,
seeking to quash the charges brought against him. The court accepted the plea
and ordered the charges against Fakhrul to be dropped.
