KHULNA, Sept 1, 2025 (BSS) – Students, teachers, and staff of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on Monday celebrated its 22nd founding anniversary in a befitting manner.
The daylong celebration began as students gathered in front of the administrative building, followed by flag hoisting and the formal inauguration of the University Day.
The day's programme began with remembering the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Later, a joyous rally was brought out which started from the administrative building and ended at the university auditorium through the Fulbarigate police box.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of KUET Professor Dr Muhammad Maksud Helali inaugurated the rally as the chief guest.
To mark the Day, "KUET Day Celebration Committee" also organized a PowerPoint presentation on “Achievements of KUET: Past, Present, and Future,” a discussion session, tree plantation and fish release programs, and an open-house exhibition of departmental laboratories.
VC Dr Muhammad Maksud Helali was present at the programme as the chief guest. With president of the programme organizing committee and Dean of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty, Prof Dr Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, in the chair.
Additional Chief Engineer (Retd) of LGED, freedom fighter engineer Sayed Mahbubur Rahman, addressed as the key speaker in the discussion. Deans of different faculties, heads of different faculties, registrar, directors, provosts of dormitories, and heads of all sections, among others, were present.
The VC said KUET not only produces meritorious graduates but also makes the country's famous citizens who are now playing an important role in sustainable engineering, technology, and ICT development both at home and abroad.
A friendly football match between teachers, officials, and students was held at 4:30 pm, followed by a doa mahfil at the central mosque after Asr prayers, and a cultural program at 6:00 pm at the auditorium.
Established in 1967 as Khulna Engineering College, the institution was upgraded to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and became KUET in 2003.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of KUET as a full-fledged university.
