DU forms two separate bodies to probe rape threat

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka University authorities have formed two separate committees to investigate a rape threat made on social media against a female student running in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election.

The DUCSU election commission and the university's proctorial team formed two and three-member probe bodies respectively.

At a press conference held at the Senate Building, DUCSU Chief Returning Officer Prof Mohammad Jashim Uddin said, the election commission's committee has been instructed to submit its findings within three days.

He added that the committee is also working on measures to combat cyberbullying already met with the chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

Prof Jashim further said a meeting was held with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner to discuss security measures on the DUCSU election day. A security protocol has been developed to ensure safety on campus.
