DHAKA, Sept 11, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh national football team returned home safely from Nepal today (Thursday) afternoon on a special flight after being stranded in Nepal due to the political unrest.

A special Air Force flight carrying the national football team landed at Kurmitola Military Airport at around 4:45 pm.

After confirmation that a special flight was on its way, the Bangladesh team's footballers, coaches, officials, and media personnel covering the game arrived at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport by 9 am. They completed airport formalities by 11 am and were waiting for their flight. The team left Kathmandu for Dhaka at 2:30 pm local time.

In the emerging situation, the Office of the Chief Adviser and the Ministry of Youth and Sports took urgent initiatives to ensure the quick and safe return of the players.

At the ministry's request, the Armed Forces Division arranged a special flight to bring back the booters.

Earlier, Jamal Bhuyan and Co. remained confined in a hotel in Kathmandu after their flight to Dhaka was cancelled due to political unrest, which forced the airport authorities to cancel all flights from the airport.

The Bangladesh national team was originally scheduled to return home on Wednesday last (Sept 10), but as the second and final FIFA friendly match against Nepal was called off following Monday's protest, the Bangladesh Football Federation rescheduled the flight from Wednesday to Tuesday.

Bangladesh's first friendly match against Nepal ended in a goalless draw, held on September 6.
