CHATTOGRAM, Sept 12, 2025 (BSS)- Six students from Chattogram University fell sick today while taking part in a hunger strike.

A group of nine students under the banner "Odhikar Sacheton Shikkharthibrindo" went for hunger strike demanding the resignation of the university's proctorial body for what they said authorities failure to take measures to protect the students during a recent confrontation with local people.

Dr Abul Kashem, a physician of CU's medical center said three of the students are currently receiving treatment at the medical centre.

The three students are experiencing salt and sugar deficiency due to prolonged fasting, resulting in significant drops in their blood pressure and sugar levels. The students are being closely monitored and receiving appropriate treatment, he said.

The agitating students began hunger strike at 12:30pm on September 10 in front of the proctor's office.

Sumaiya Shikder, a student of marketing department, expressed frustration over the authorities’ inertia to fulfill their demand. She said the university authorities are trying to move away from fulfilling the demand saying it’s beyond their capacity.

Last night the authorities called for a dialogue, but the students declined to sit in on the plea that authorities’ previous assurances still remained unfulfilled.

However, the CU administration invited the protesters for a meeting next Sunday to address any remaining issues.
