DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 170 teachers and doctors from 34 
departments have so far received training on Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) at 
Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) here.

The training workshops were organised by the university's Institutional 
Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), said a press release of BMU.

The information was revealed today at the certificate distribution ceremony 
of the training workshop held at the conference room of BMU's Super 
Specialized Hospital. 

The event involved teachers and doctors from eight departments.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Md Shahinul Alam attended the ceremony as 
the chief guest and distributed the certificates.
 
Pro-VC (Research and Development) Prof Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader was 
present as special guest while IQAC Director Prof Dr Nurun Nahar Khanam 
presided over the event.
 
Additional Director of IQAC Dr Dine Mujahid Mohammad Faruk Osmani conducted 
the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that practicing evidence-based medicine 
would play a vital role in reducing healthcare costs and lowering patient 
mortality. 

He said that if doctors are encouraged to adopt evidence-based treatment, 
unnecessary variations in prescriptions, medicines, and investigations for 
the same patient would be reduced. 

It would also provide essential knowledge for medical and clinical audits and 
make a major contribution to the advancement of science-based healthcare, he 
added.

Special guest Prof Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader said the training workshop 
offered an opportunity for teachers and physicians to enhance their skills. 

It will make a significant contribution to improving the quality of medical 
education, upgrading expertise, and acquiring accurate knowledge, he added. 

He further said that collective efforts could take the country's health 
sector to a new height.
Dr Mariya Mahtab, registrar of the pediatrics department at Holy Family Red 
Crescent Medical College Hospital, stressed the need to expand evidence-based 
medicine training to all medical universities, colleges, and institutes 
across the country. 

She said making it a national programme is the demand of the time.

A total of 29 teachers and physicians of the departments of Rheumatology, 
Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic and Liver Transplant Surgery, Pediatric Cardiology, 
Virology, Forensic Medicine, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, 
Gynecological Oncology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive 
Endocrinology and Infertility participated in today's workshop.

Dr Mir Rashekh Alam Ovi, residential surgeon of Dhaka Medical College and 
Hospital was also present.
