Auto-rickshaw driver jailed for attacking police sergeant

DHAKA, Oct 10, 2025 (BSS) – A Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court has sentenced auto-rickshaw driver Md Belal, 33, to one month in jail for attacking a police sergeant at Manik Mia intersection in the capital.

According to a press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division here today, traffic police were conducting a drive against illegal battery-operated auto-rickshaws at Manik Mia crossing on October 8.

As part of the operation, 17 battery-powered auto-rickshaws were sent to the Basila dumping ground, it said.

When the traffic police were on duty, auto-rickshaw driver Belal suddenly attacked a police sergeant in the presence of pedestrians and other auto-rickshaw drivers, the release added.

Later, police arrested Belal from Manik Mia intersection and handed him over to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

He was later produced before a Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which sentenced him to one month in jail.
