
RAJSHAHI, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) – Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have approved a project recently to construct six more residential halls for male and female students of the varsity to solve the existing accommodation crisis.
Of the six, three dormitories would be constructed for male students and rest three for the female students where more than 7,000 students would be accommodated, said Prof Akhter Hossain Mazumder, Administrator of RU Public Relation Office here on Sunday.
Taka 3,500 crore Development Project Proposal (DPP) has been approved at the 543th Syndicate meeting of the university late last month to this end. Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib chaired the meeting.
Besides, initiative has also been taken to reconstruct the Sher-E-Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall, RU medical centre, Varendra Research Museum, Zubery International Guest House and some other academic and administrative buildings.
Apart from this, an innovation hub will be built and internal roads in the campus will be constructed and renovated.
Talking to BSS, Prof. Mazumder said after final approval by the government and other necessary official procedures, the project will be implemented during the next three years from 2026-2027 financial year.
He also said the DPP has also provision of procuring instruments and equipment for higher laboratories to improve research.
Upon its success, the project will contribute a lot towards advancing and supporting the higher academic standards in both teaching and research that will turn the university into a centre of excellence.
Earlier, unfinished construction works of the fourth science building, fourth arts building, agriculture faculty building and fine arts building were completed.
Construction of University's infrastructure will support, enable, and enhance the work of its faculty, staff, and students and ensure qualitative improvement of higher education in the fields of education and need-based research including engineering, technology and agriculture.
Vice-chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib expressed the hope that the improved necessary infrastructural facilities will help expand qualitative education and its scope.
