DHAKA, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - A delegation of National Citizen Party (NCP) held a courtesy and policy meeting with the visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission team at a city hotel here today.

The meeting focused on Bangladesh’s current economic challenges, reform priorities, and the country’s transition toward a stable and accountable governance structure.

NCP delegation expressed gratitude to the IMF for its continued support during what it described as a critical period for Bangladesh’s economy, said a press release.

The party also appreciated the IMF’s clear reform roadmap, noting that the proposed measures are essential for building a sustainable and resilient economy in future.

During the discussion, the IMF team expressed concerns over several key economic indicators, including GDP growth, revenue mobilization, the revenue-to-GDP ratio, distressed assets in the financial sector, and rising youth unemployment.

NCP representatives acknowledged these challenges and reiterated their commitment to advancing revenue digitalization and supporting ongoing financial-sector reforms.

The meeting further highlighted how kleptocratic practices under the previous regime had weakened governance and harmed the economy.

Both sides discussed the structural reforms required to prevent such corruption in the future.

They also discussed topics including the size of the informal economy, strengthening transparency and good governance, and ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition of power from the interim government to an elected administration.

Both the NCP and the IMF expressed optimism that Bangladesh can move toward a more resilient economic future, driven by the determination and hard work of its people.

IMF Mission Chief for Bangladesh Chris Papageorgiou, Resident Representative Maximum Kryshko, and Deputy Secretary and Economic Analyst Tawhid Ilahi attended the meeting.

The NCP delegation included Joint Convenor and Lead of the Industry and Commerce Cell Javed Rasin, Foreign Affairs Cell lead Md. Sultan Mohammed Zakaria, Alauddin Mohammad and Abdullah Al Mamun Faisal.
