DHAKA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) – Election Commission (EC) Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah has issued a strong warning that anyone attempting to use muscle power or influence in the upcoming 13th national election will face consequences.

“Those who use muscle power will be the ones to suffer, and officials who act even slightly biased will also face consequences,” he said.

He made the remarks on the second day of the EC’s dialogue with registered political parties at the EC headquarters in Agargaon.

Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin presided over the discussion.

Sanaullah expressed deep concern over the deterioration of Bangladesh’s electoral culture, saying, “Our entire culture of elections has been destroyed… people have turned away from elections.”

He noted that various irregularities committed over the years have caused cultural and political damage to the country. Emphasizing collective responsibility, he urged political parties to help restore a respectful and tolerant political environment essential for fair elections.

Acknowledging that the EC has made mistakes in the past, he said the Commission is making conscious efforts to prevent such errors in the future.

On Sunday morning, the EC held discussions with Gano Forum, Gano Front, Islamic Front Bangladesh, Islami Oikya Jote, Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), and Bangladesh Jatiya Party.

The afternoon session included Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesh NAP, Trinamool BNP, Krishak Sramik Janata League, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

The dialogue will continue on Monday, the third and final day, when the EC will meet representatives of 12 more registered political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, in both morning and afternoon sessions.

The EC will meet the Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Front, Bangladesh National Awami Party, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Bangladesh Kalyan Party, and Bangladesh Muslim League-BML from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Monday.

In addition, the EC will hold an exchange of views with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), Bangladesh Development Party, Bangladesh Islami Front, Khelafat Majlis, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Monday.
