Govt provides Tk 12.15cr educational assistance to expat workers' children

DHAKA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) - The government has provided Taka 12.15 crore to 3,926 meritorious children of expatriate workers as educational assistance in the last one year.

In addition, Taka 10 lakh was given to 861 disabled children of expatriate workers as allowance, according to an official document of the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment.

Insurance claims worth about Taka 98 crore were collected in favour of the families of 1,864 deceased expatriate workers in the last one year, while Taka 17.4 crore was paid to the families of deceased workers, who died abroad, for transportation and burial expenses. Every family of the deceased got Taka 35,000.

As part of the government's initiative to support the sick expatriate workers, Taka 9.17 crore was provided to 1,007 injured and sick workers as medical assistance, while 4,077 families of deceased workers were given financial assistance of Taka 120.04 crore in which each family received Taka 3 lakh.

About Taka 123.5 crore was realised as compensation, arrears, insurance and service benefits of 1,047 deceased workers, who died abroad, and the money was handed over to their families.

Besides, the government provided Taka 17.55 crore to 1,290 expatriate workers, who returned home from Lebanon due to the war situation, official data shows. 

The government managed to release 188 imprisoned expatriates, who expressed solidarity with the Bangladesh's 2024 student-people movement, in the United Arab Emirates, and announced a financial incentive of Taka 94 crore for them.

The ministry is providing assistance for safe homes of the expatriate workers who were sick, disabled and detained. It is also providing legal assistance, including bringing dead bodies to the country, through 44 embassies aboard and free ambulance services for them.
