DHAKA, Nov 24, 2025 (BSS) – The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) today organised a cultural programme titled 'Protesting Baul Evening' or 'Protibadi Baul Shandya ' at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Dhaka University premises here to protest the recent attacks on Baul artistes.

The event took place at 6 pm at the Payera Chattar of TSC with participation of huge students.

Monowar Hossain Pranto, convener of the Masterda Surja Sen Hall unit of Chhatra Dal and one of the key organizers of this event, said Baul tradition—rooted in Bengali folk heritage, humanism and equality—has enriched the country’s spirit of free thought for centuries.

He said the recent attacks on Baul artistes are deeply alarming and represent an assault not only on individual performers but also on national cultural heritage and communal harmony.

He said cultural freedom and human dignity are fundamental to a democratic society, adding that religious intolerance cannot serve as the basis of a stable state.
“Culture and human values must guide a progressive and resilient nation,” he noted.

Another organiser, Abidur Rahman Mishu, said Baul philosophy embodies equality, peace and humanity and safeguarding this tradition requires collective action from the state, society and political actors.

At the programme, organizers placed four demands: Quick;  impartial and transparent investigation into the attacks; legal action against the perpetrators; ensuring security for Baul artistes and other cultural communities and coordinated social initiatives against hatred,  provocation and violence.
