DHAKA, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) – Adviser to Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Ministries Sharmeen S Murshid has said violence against women is a serious human rights violation and stressed the need for suppressing misogynistic propaganda to curb rising abuse.
“Despite progress in women’s education, economic participation and leadership, incidents of violence continue to rise due to entrenched authoritarian attitudes,” he said.
The adviser was speaking at a national dialogue organized by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) at Gulshan in the capital as part of the global 16-day campaign against gender-based violence.
The Adviser announced that the ministry will reach victims within 24 hours through a newly formed quick-response team and emphasized stronger coordination with grassroots NGOs.
She also highlighted the growing threats of cyber violence and called for a new social narrative rooted in awareness, equality and respect.
The adviser urged political parties to be accountable for their stance on women’s rights ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Renowned economist and distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Debapriya Bhattacharya noted that women in Bangladesh feel unsafe across social, financial and political spheres, stressing the need for social movements.
Representatives from Switzerland, UN Women, Canada, and Sweden echoed the urgency of collective action, partnerships, preventive measures, and tackling technology-based violence, which they described as rapidly increasing.
Speakers reaffirmed that gender-based violence is unacceptable in any form and called for year-round commitment beyond the 16-day international campaign recognized by the UN.
