Former hospital chief sued by ACC over Tk 2.16cr tender fraud

JHALAKATHI, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against four individuals, including the former Superintendent of Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital, Dr. Shamim Ahmed, over allegations of irregularities and fraud in tendering, leading to the awarding of a contract valued at Tk 2.16 crore.
 
Dr. Shamim Ahmed, who is currently working at Khagrachari Hospital, was named in the lawsuit along with three contractors.
 
The case was filed on Wednesday by Partha Chandra Pal, the Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC Pirojpur office.
 
The charges were lodged under the Anti-Corruption Act 5(2) and sections 420, 409, and 109 of the Penal Code.
 
The other three accused individuals are Shipra Rani Piplai, a contractor from Barisal Katpatti Road, her son, Sohag Krishna Piplai and her husband, Satya Krishna Piplai.
 
The ACC Pirojpur Deputy Director accepted the complaint and instructed that it be recorded as Case No. 15.
 
The charges relate to the procurement of Medical and Surgical Requisites (MSR) for Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital during the 2023-24 financial year. The Annual Procurement Plan (APP) for this period was approved for Tk 5 crore.
 
Dr. Shamim Ahmed, in his capacity as Superintendent, called for tenders totaling Tk 2.16 crore  for the purchase of various items, including gauze, bandage, cotton, medicine, chemicals, furniture, and kitchen supplies.
