BHOLA, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) — The government will introduce special allowances for teachers working in remote and hard-to-reach coastal char areas, Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said today, adding that multiple initiatives are underway to improve the sector.

“The long-awaited upgrade to the 11th grade for assistant primary teachers would be implemented soon. We fully support their other legitimate demands as well. We hope teachers will withdraw their programmes and refrain from putting students at risk by disrupting year-end examinations and regular lessons,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at Monpura upazila this noon, the adviser expressed concerns over teacher shortages in isolated char regions and said new recruitment would soon be launched to fill vacancies.

“Teacher shortages in char schools will be resolved through fresh appointments, and those serving in remote coastal areas will be brought under a special allowance scheme,” he added.

During his visit to Monpura, the adviser inspected three government primary schools—Hajirhat Model Government Primary School, 15 No. Kauar Tek Government Primary School, and Char Faizuddin Bhuiyan Hat Government Primary School—reviewing classrooms, office rooms, and physical infrastructure.

The adviser urged local residents to support efforts to ensure student attendance and improve education quality despite the challenging environment of island communities.

Earlier in the morning, Dr. Poddar visited Chandpur Model Government Primary School in Tazumuddin upazila, where he exchanged views with students, teachers, and stakeholders on enhancing the quality of primary education.

The adviser was accompanied by his spouse Dr. Roma Saha, Additional Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Md Atikur Rahman, Director of Planning and Development Mirajul Islam Ukil, Bhola District Primary Education Officer Azharul Haque Azad, Monpura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Fazle Rabbi, Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Kamrul Hasan and officials from the ministry.
