Tarique Rahman mourns deaths of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in Sudan

Dhaka, Dec 13, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep concern and profound sorrow over the deadly attack on a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping base in the Abyei area of Sudan, which claimed the lives of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and left eight others injured, including three female soldiers.

In a post on his verified Facebook page today, Tarique Rahman said he was "deeply saddened and heartbroken" by the tragic incident.

"Our brave soldiers, who gave their lives while serving under the UN flag to protect world peace, are a source of great pride for our nation. Their sacrifice will always be remembered by Bangladesh," he said.

He also prayed for the departed souls and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The BNP Acting Chairman urged all concerned to stand by the victims' families during this difficult time.

"As the son of a decorated army officer, I have always been passionately inspired by the exceptional professionalism, courage and sacrifice of the Bangladesh Army. In the current situation, I believe the international community must take stronger and more effective steps to ensure the safety of peacekeepers," Tarique Rahman added.
