DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS)- BNP has sought clarification of the Election Commission (EC) on the provision of requiring information on children’s income tax in the nomination papers of the candidates of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
A three-member BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan met Chief Election Commissioner at Nirbachan Bhaban to inform the issue.
BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Jabiullah and former acting secretary of the Election Commission Dr. Mohammad Zakaria were present.
Briefing journalists after the meeting Nazrul Islam Khan said there are some confusion over the issue. That is why we have sent a letter to the EC and also discussed it with them today.
“If this matter is not clarified very quickly, and remains in the nomination form, problem will arise certainly,” he said.
Nazrul Islam Khan said the matter was brought to attention of the EC. The commission has agreed with us and clarified that it’s applicable only for “dependent children”.
The CEC assured BNP delegation that it would issue a clear directive on this matter very soon.
The BNP delegation also called upon the EC to take steps to prevent the misuse of technology in election campaigns.
Nazrul Islam urged the EC to take a strict stance so that no one can use AI generated contents on social media to spread propaganda or defame others.
The CEC informed us that the commission through its own system is monitoring such fake contents to take action, he said.
