DHAKA, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - State-run distributor Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC today began repair work on a damaged gas valve on Mirpur Road and a gas pipeline under the Turag River to restore normal gas supply in the city.

According to a Titas Gas press release issued today, a four-inch diameter valve in front of Gonobhaban on Mirpur Road suddenly burst this morning, causing major gas leakage. Titas immediately initiated work to replace the damaged valve.

The release added, "To bring the situation under control, several valves in the distribution network were temporarily closed and gas pressure was reduced. As a result, low gas pressure was experienced in different parts of the capital."

Gas pressure was reported to be almost non-existent in Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Shyamoli, New Market, Hazaribagh, Gabtoli and surrounding areas due to the combined impact of the technical faults.

Earlier on Friday, the gas distribution pipeline installed on the riverbed of the Turag River was damaged after being hit by a cargo trawler in the Amin Bazar area.

Although the damaged pipeline was later repaired, water entered the pipeline during the repair work, leading to an overall drop in gas supply across the city.

"Technical efforts are continuing to remove water that entered the damaged pipeline under the Turag River and to ensure gas supply in the city," the Titas release said.

In coordination with other concerned departments, necessary technical and operational activities are underway to resolve the low gas pressure problem, the release added.
