
DHAKA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS)- The Election Commission (EC) today approved 58 appeals on the second day of hearings filed against decisions of returning officers regarding the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
Besides, seven appeals were rejected or dismissed, while hearings on six appeals were kept pending, said a press release of the EC.
The EC also approved the appeal filed by independent candidate Md. Mohiuddin of Munshiganj-3, which had remained pending on Saturday (10 January).
Hearings for appeals numbering 141 to 210 will be held on Monday (12 January).
The appeal hearings began at 10:00 am on Sunday at the auditorium (Basement-2) of Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon and continued until 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break.
The full commission, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, conducted the hearings.
Earlier, on the first day (Saturday), 52 out of 70 appeals were approved, 15 were rejected, and three were deferred, EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told journalists.
EC Director (Public Relations) Md. Ruhul Amin Mallik told BSS that the appeal hearings will continue until January 18. Appeals numbering 1 to 70 were heard on Saturday, while appeals numbering 71 to 140 were heard on Sunday.
On Monday (12 January), appeals numbering 141 to 210 will be heard, followed by appeals numbering 211 to 280 on Tuesday (13 January). The dates for subsequent hearings will be announced shortly.
EC officials said that after completion of hearings, the results of the appeals will be displayed on monitors, PDF copies of the verdicts will be emailed to the returning officers and concerned parties, and the decisions will be published on the EC’s website.
In addition, certified copies of the appeal verdicts will be distributed by designated officials from the reception desk of Nirbachan Bhaban according to the schedule.
Copies of verdicts for 10, 11 and 12 January will be distributed on 12 January; verdicts for 13, 14 and 15 January on 15 January; and verdicts for 16, 17 and 18 January on 18 January.
A total of 645 appeals have been filed with the EC against the returning officers’ decisions on scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th Parliamentary Election. On the final day of scrutiny on January 4, returning officers or assistant returning officers across the country’s 300 constituencies declared 1,842 nomination papers valid and cancelled the candidacy of 723 out of a total of 2,568 nomination papers submitted.
